As Merseyside and Cheshire Development Manager for the Federation of Small Businesses, the UK’s leading small business membership organisation, I support FSB’s volunteer activists and other members and represent our policy positions and other interests locally. For example, I represent the FSB and chair the Liverpool City Region and Cheshire Business Groups, which are comprised of the leading business organisations and act to ensure small businesses are prioritised in local decision making. Recently, I also participated on the Liverpool City Region Skills Commission and Town Centres Commission, and sit on the LCR Enterprise Hub Strategic Board and the Cheshire and Warrington LEP’s Growth Hub scrutiny group, among other bodies.
In addition to working with the media at all levels, my role as Media and PR Manager and Senior Policy Adviser at the Forum of Private Business (FPB), a national business lobbyist and support group, provided me with considerable experience of political lobbying and campaigning.
Formerly a journalist, and having worked in many busy newsrooms, I regularly appear on television and radio. Notable appearances include the BBC’s Panorama, The One Show, Working Lunch, BBC News, Sky News and BBC Radio Four and Five, in addition to local media in the North West.
I am extremely interested in the media and political communication, particularly audience research and ‘media effects’ theories. I have an MA in the subject and continue to take a keen interest in developments in communications studies. I have broad interests, including current affairs and politics, business and economics, science, literature and the arts, as well as history and education.
