Irene Afful

Irene Afful has had a hugely successful career to date including becoming the first ever black female Inspector in the history of Merseyside Police. Her career incorporated critical incident management, professional standards, child protection, community engagement and serious crime investigations as a Detective Inspector with the Force. In addition to her core role, she was instrumental in re-establishing, relaunching and chairing the Black Police Association, a support network for BME staff and served as Female Vice President of the National Black Police Association, advancing equality on the national stage. Irene was also actively involved in the Women’s Network and Part Time & Flexible Workers Network. During this time Irene received many accolades and commendations and was featured in a local history book, ‘Liverpool Black Pioneers’.
